The Seventh Sign (1988)

Directed by Carl Schultz. Starring Demi Moore, Michael Biehn, Jürgen Prochnow, Peter Friedman, Manny Jacobs, Lee Garlington, John Taylor, Akosua Busia, John Heard. [R]

Pregnant Moore and husband Biehn rent out a room to mysterious stranger Prochnow, and something just ain’t right with that guy. Meanwhile, Vatican priest Friedman travels the globe as witness to cataclysmic events like frozen deserts, rivers of blood, and boiling seas. Is it the end of the world as we know it? Yet another religion-themed horror picture in the Rosemary’s Baby and The Omen traditions, and one that requires a superhuman leap of faith to stick with it. But its cardinal sin isn’t utter preposterousness, it’s sheer boredom, even when things start getting real batty in the last few reels. If you can swallow what they’re selling, maybe not the worst thing to watch, but that’s a tall order for anyone with even faintly discriminating tastes or a few shreds of common sense. Title refers to the seven symbolic seals mentioned in the Book of Revelation; do not confuse this with The Seventh Seal or you’re going to have a really bad time.
