Swiss Miss (1938)

Directed by John G. Blystone. Starring Oliver Hardy, Stan Laurel, Della Lind, Adia Kuznetzoff, Walter Woolf King, Eric Blore, Charles Judels.

Lesser Laurel and Hardy outing sets them up as mousetrap salesman traveling through Switzerland—more cheese, more mice, right?—and getting elbowed off the screen for a dumb, fabricated story of a singer and her composer husband. A few good comic bits, but not enough, and why complicate the two-men-and-a-piano crossing of a rickety rope bridge with a grumpy gorilla? If you want to make with the belly laughs watching the boys struggle with a piano, stick with their wonderful The Music Box short.Padded out with several songs, but the only one worth sitting through is Ollie serenading, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”, while Stan blows a tuba.
