Slugs (1988)

Directed by Juan Piquer Simón. Starring Michael Garfield, Philip MacHale, Kim Terry, Santiago Álvarez, Frank Braña, Alicia Moro, Patty Shepard. [R]

The director of Pieces fools around with killer slugs jacked on toxic waste, and you see where this is going. Quite bloody, but also bloody stupid, with late-night cable-level acting bringing monotonous life to a group of anonymous skin bags of slug food; the main one is named Mike Brady, so good luck not getting distracted by that. Not entirely without value—a slug goes into a guy’s nose and eats his brain, so that’s something, and the lighting and camerawork during the climax ain’t bad either—but if you find yourself vigorously defending a “nature attacks” movie called Slugs, it may be time for a psych evaluation. Onscreen title reads as Slugs: The Movie, to set it apart from Slugs: The Breakfast Cereal.
