Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (2003)

Directed by McG. Starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, Bernie Mac, Demi Moore, Justin Theroux, Matt LeBlanc, John Cleese, Robert Patrick, Luke Wilson, Ja’net Dubois, Shia LaBeouf, Crispin Glover, (voice) John Forsythe. [PG-13]

Sleek, stupefyingly preposterous sequel initially seems to be parodying the already parodically chaotic first movie, but it’s hard to laugh along with something so soulless and ineptly assembled (laugh at, on the other hand…). No plot, just a basic shaggy premise built around a vengeful ex-Angel played by Moore wreaking havoc and the heroic trio jumping to action (while strapped to invisible wires in front of blue screens). If the first one was brainless eye candy overkill, the sequel is downright insulting to all of the senses, including the sixth one that sees Bruce Willis make a walk-on appearance (pity he doesn’t share any screentime with his ex). So monotonously overblown and laws-of-physics-desecrating that it makes the Fast & Furious franchise seem shrewdly restrained. Not even its cheerful spirit and Glover’s weirdness can redeem this junk. Features an endless parade of cameos, notably the aforementioned Willis, Carrie Fisher, and original Angel Jaclyn Smith.
